Sara Cates
Sara received her Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas in 2008 and began her family law practice in Colorado later that fall. Sara joined Willoughby & Associates in 2025 after enjoying a successful career as a partner of a local family law firm. For the past sixteen years, Sara’s practice has been primarily focused on representing clients in high conflict family law matters involving complex financial issues and high asset portfolios as well as parenting time disputes and appeals.
As a parent herself, Sara is focused on guiding her clients through one of the most difficult times in their life with honesty and empathy. She strives to provide a realistic, calculated, yet compassionate approach to guide them through this significant life change. However, Sara also loves the courtroom and thoroughly enjoys a well crafted cross-examination, which has led to her successfully litigating hundreds of cases across the State.
In her free time, Sara and her family love to spend time in the beautiful scenery Colorado has to offer including camping, 4-wheeling, boating, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. While snow sports are foreign to this native Texan, she is proud to boast that her son (a native Coloradoan) is a two-time champion of the 3-Lakes Ice Fishing Tournament’s children’s division!
